Villiers Quartet & Konya Kanneh-Mason, piano

Amidst the backdrop of 19th-century Germany, a unique friendship formed between Mendelssohn, Schumann, and the British composer William Sterndale Bennett. The internationally acclaimed Villiers Quartet joins forces with pianist Konya Kanneh-Mason, Winner of the 2017 Nottingham Young Musician of the Year, to perform music by these three celebrated composers.

Nottingham Chamber Music Seminar

Saturday, 14th July, 1:00pm - 5:00pm 

The Nottingham Chamber Music Seminar is a course for players to participate in focused study of chamber music in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Pre-formed ensembles of any combination and level - including strings, piano, woodwind, and brass - are encouraged. Groups can bring pieces they have been studying, or are just beginning to learn. The Festival is pleased to present coachings with the renowned Villiers Quartet, the Quartet-in-Residence at Oxford University and Nottingham High School. Groups also have the option to participate in the public Chamber Masterclass and Conversation with the Villiers Quartet at the end of the seminar.

Music and wine come together at Nottingham’s iconic gourmet hotspot, Delilah Fine Foods, the UK Deli of the Year 2017. In the unique beauty of Delilah’s Grade II-listed building, the Le Page Ensemble led by acclaimed violinist David Le Page, takes listeners on a musical journey through Europe. The concert includes wine tastings from the exclusive Delilah's collection in this unique culinary and musical event. 

*Evening concert includes wine tasting and canape pairing. Non-alcoholic option available.

City of Legends celebrates the visionary, creative spirit of Nottingham. In a dramatic pairing, the brilliant SCAW Duo (Sarah Watts, bass clarinet & Antony Clare, piano), joins Nottingham poet and local legend Andrew Graves, to bring riveting music and poetry to life. The concert includes the UK premiere of “Into the Depths” by award-winning Nottingham composer Elizabeth Kelly, and a set of new poems specially commissioned and performed by Andrew Graves for the Nottingham Chamber Music Festival.

In homage to composers who push boundaries, the Villiers Quartet pairs the music of two vanguards: Alexander Goehr’s searing Fourth String Quartet, and Beethoven’s spirited “Razumovsky” Quartet, Op. 59/2. Join the Villiers - one of the UK’s most fascinating string quartets - as they perform the thrilling finale concert of the 2018 Nottingham Chamber Music Festival.
